A proprietary preparation consisting of an alkaline solution of sodium hypochlorite. It dissolves the bodies of bacteria except acid-fast organisms, such as the tubercle bacillus. It is used also to dissolve the mucus in sputum in order to obtain a sediment of tubercle bacilli and in obtaining pure cultures of this organism directly from sputum.
