One of a sect of Jewish Christians, who united the ceremonies of the law with the precepts of the gospel, observing both the Jewish and Christian Sabbaths. They denied the divinity of Christ and rejected many parts of the New Testament. They were opposed and pronounced heretics by Justin, Irenaeus, and Origen. It is thought that St. John wrote his gospel, in the year 97, against them.
