whose name was long a synonym for grammar in America, was born in Swatara, Pa., April 22, 1745; died near York, England, Jan. 16, 1826. From 1784 until his death he was devoted to literary work. His publications include: "Grammar of the English Language" (1795, first ed.), "The Power of Religion on the Mind" (1787); "Compendium of Religious Faith and Practice". "Memoirs of the Life and Writings of Lindley Murray" was issued in 1826.
