Is the articulation of the condyles of the occipital bone with the superior articular cavities of the atlas. It is strengthened by two ligaments; the one anterior, the other posterior, called occipito-atloid ligaments: the one extends from the anterior, the other from the posterior, arch of the atlas, to the corresponding portion of the circumference of the foramen magnum.
