An American clergyman and author; born at Pottsgrove, Pa., Feb. 11, 1836. He has held pastorates in Congregational churches in New York, Massachusetts, and Ohio, and served on the editorial staff of the Independent and Sunday Afternoon. Among his numerous works are: "Plain Thoughts on the Art of Living" (1868); "From the Hub to the Hudson" (1869); "The Young Men and the Church" (1885); "Cosmopolis City Club"; "Christianity and Socialism".
