Chamaelea, Chamaeloea, Widow wail. Ord. Thymelaeae. Sex. Syst. Octandria Monogynia. A sort of dwarf-olive. An acrid, volatile, alkaline principle has been separated from the bark of this plant by M. Vauquelin, to which he has given the name Daphnine. The plants of the genus owe their vesicating property to this principle.
