Having a distorted neck. Some commentators in noticing the Shakespearean phrase, "the wrynecked fife," are of opinion that the allusion is to the player; others hold that the reference is to the instrument, which they say is the old English flute, or flute a bec: so called from having a curved projecting mouthpiece like a bird's beak.
