A sore, which arises from the direct application of the venereal virus; hence it is almost always seated, in men, on the penis. The French use the word Chancre, in popular language, for cancerous ulcers, the malignant aphthae of children, &c. Formerly, the terms Car'oli and Ca'ries pudendo'rum were used for venereal pustules or sores on the parts of generation.
