A muscle, situate at the outer part of the palm of the hand. It is divided into two portions by the tendon of the Flexor longus pollicis. It arises from the os magnum, the anterior annular ligament of the carpus and the third metacarpal bone; and is inserted into the superior part of the first phalanx of the thumb, and into the two ossa sesamoidea at the articulation of the first phalanx with the first metacarpal bone. Its use is to bend the first phalanx of the thumb on the first metacarpal bone, and the latter upon the trapezium.
